Before You Walk In

Got Questions?

Everything people usually ask before their first class at a Phoenix boxing gym — cost, gear, kids programs, and what actually happens on day one.

Do I need boxing experience to join?

No. Most people who walk through our doors have never thrown a punch before. Coaches are on the floor every session to teach fundamentals from scratch, and your first session is free so you can see what it's like before committing to anything.

What should I wear to my first class?

Comfortable athletic clothes you can move freely in — shorts or leggings, a breathable t-shirt or tank, and flat-soled athletic shoes. You don't need any boxing-specific gear for your first visit.

Do I need to bring my own gloves and hand wraps?

No gear is required for your first session. Once you're training regularly, we recommend picking up your own hand wraps and gloves for hygiene and fit, and our coaches can point you toward the right sizes.

How much does it cost to train here?

Membership starts at $60 per month, which includes open gym access plus the ability to add 1-on-1, partner, group, amateur, or pro-level training on top of it. Your first session is always free — see our full training breakdown.

Will I have to spar on my first day?

No. Sparring is never day-one, and it's never required. Coaches build your fundamentals first, and sparring only comes into play later, if and when you want it.

Do you train kids?

Yes. We train fighters of all ages, from kids learning the fundamentals to adults training for fitness to amateurs and pros competing under USA Boxing. Ask a coach about the right starting point for your child.

Is this gym only for people who want to compete?

Not at all. Most members are training for fitness, confidence, and discipline, not to fight. We also happen to have a full USA Boxing amateur and pro program for members who do want to compete.

Where are you located, and what are your hours?

3616 West Thomas Rd, Ste 7, Phoenix, AZ 85019. Monday–Friday 5:00am–9:00pm, Saturday 8:00am–12:00pm, closed Sunday. See the map and full details on our Visit section.

Do you offer amateur or USA Boxing registration help?

Yes. Old School Boxing Club is a registered USA Boxing club. We train amateur fighters for regional and national tournaments, and can point you toward how to register as a boxer, coach, or official on our Amateur Boxing page.

How do I claim my free first session?
