Walter “Wacho” Santibanes upsets Manny Flores in Indio

on Goldenboy’s Fight Night at Fantasy Springs Casino Resort on June 08 2023. 

Goldenboy’s Fight Night featured 5 bouts on the night at Fantasy Springs Casino, with the main event being headlined by Coachella’s Finest “Gucci Manny” Flores.     Walter “Wacho” Santibanes would fight on the Goldenboy card, taking the fight against Manny Flores a home town favorite at 15-0 with 11 kos.  The odds were against Wacho, going into Indio and fighting against a local favorite with +800 odds at it’s highest and coming down to +500 odds the night of the fight, a big underdog

This would be the first main event for the heavily favored, heavy handed “Gucci Manny” Flores.  He would enter the contest undefeated at 15-0 with 11 KOs.  Walter Santibanes was the B-side for this tune up fight for Goldenboy’s Flores, stepping the ring at 11-2.  

From the beginning bell, Walter Santibanes would dominate every round against Gucci Manny.  Maybe the 5th round Santibanes would let up on the gas but that would be the only time Santibanes may have let up on Flores.  Body-body-upper cut-upper cut.  Non stop flurries of combos came from different angles, orthodox, southpaw, domination on this Thursday night.

The judges would score the bout – Sergio Caiz 91-99   Edward Hernandez Sr 90-100   Fernando Villarreal 91-99, Unanimous Decision to Santibanes.  Home town fans were not happy and would boo the results while some others became fans of Santibanes and requested pics with the winner. 

Walter “Wacho” Santibanes improved his record to 12-2 while Flores would drop his 0 to 15-1.
